Resilience

Resilience

1 : the capability of a strained body to recover its size and shape after deformation caused especially by compressive stress
2 : an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change

Was told this morning by yet another person I'm very resilient and it will carry me through med school and into practice. I hope so!

For me, life is not about how bad things are but how blessed I've been in my life. I've certainly seen my share of unfortunate events and devastating tragedy, but I seem to focus on the good: my family, friends, new friends, and goals which makes those unfortunate events so less tragic.

Resiliency seems to equate with finding the blessings in life, or finding the rainbows after a storm.

Resilience - a new word to post on my daily/weekly reminder list.

Make it a great day and a better weekend!

U of MN Pre-Med Day

Wow. As many suggest during the pre-med path, inside med school itself, and probably once or twice during residency, the question of "what in God's green earth am I doing?" comes to mind.

It's not that the focus is gone, it is that the path is not easy. Somehow, I have no doubt that each doctor reviewed the why, when, where of what they were doing and came to the same decision. I believe after yesterday that med school students feel and think the same way now and find something to focus on while getting through subject matter that might not be the most interesting (not everyone can love neurology).

And after yesterday, my focus is reinforced again, ten-fold.

The pre-med day gave me the opportunity, if I took it, to meet a few of the admissions committee members and ask straight out, my questions related to GPA, MCAT, and more importantly, my age. Then I sat with two med school students and asked them the inside scoop.

I'm stoked!!! Can I say that on here?!? My smile could not be any brighter, my internal drive more amp'd up, my hope more enhanced, or my passion more stoked.

What a great day!
